Candidate Statement in English
I am dedicated to upholding Santa Monica College’s tradition of excellence – outstanding teachers, valuable community programs, and mission of student success.
As your Trustee, I have consistently provided successful leadership by:
- Continuing high-quality education and workforce development
- Advocating for equitable State funding, including for SMC Emeritus
- Recruiting and retaining excellent faculty
- Providing strong fiscal management
- Promoting equity and programs responsive to local communities and environment
- Encouraging effective collaboration especially with Santa Monica and Malibu schools.
I am proud of SMC’s resilience and resourcefulness throughout the COVID-19 crisis. Our work included a systematic pivot to online classes and support while maintaining our position as number one in transfers to UC, UCLA, and USC.
We increased student financial aid. We created new services, including Chromebook lending, campus pantry, home food delivery, and mental health counseling.
SMC continues to be innovative, launching hundreds of new courses in health sciences, business, computer science, art, humanities, STEM and the trades.
My extensive community experience includes serving on the boards of the Malibu SMC Public Facilities Authority, UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center Board of Advisors, Southern California ACLU, Broad Stage, Social Justice Learning Institute, Students4Students Shelter, and the Los Angeles County West Vector Control District.
I will maintain Santa Monica College’s commitment to education while strengthening partnerships with neighbors and serving our community.
I am endorsed by Congressman Ted Lieu, Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, Senator Ben Allen, and Assemblymember Richard Bloom.
Emeritus
• Reclutar y conservar docentes excelentes
