General Election 2022

I’m running for the Santa Monica College Board at a time of UNPRECEDENTED CHANGE. The college now offers on campus, online, and hybrid classes due to the pandemic. My experience ensured these educational delivery models were ACCESSIBLE to ALL STUDENTS will prove an asset to Santa Monica College. 

Tom Peters Accomplishments 

• Former tenured faculty Santa Monica College Center for Students with Disabilities 
• Helped secure over $50,000 in donations to the SANTA MONICA-MALIBU EDUCATION FOUNDATION through the SMC FACULTY ASSOCIATION to help local students 
• Former member of Student Affairs Committee, Faculty Association Executive Board, and Center for Students with Disabilities’ Scholarship Committee 
• Developed the DEPARTMENTAL ACCESSIBILITY TEAM of faculty members to support colleagues to ensure all classroom and online materials was accessible & usable for all students 
• Served on CITY of SANTA MONICA DISABILITIES COMMISSION 
• Volunteered on FOOD PANTRY DRIVE to feed SMC students during pandemic and RENTERS’ HOTLINE to help distressed tenants 

My goals: 

• Full support for ALL SMC STUDENTS & EMPLOYEES 
• Work with organizations to ensure Santa Monica College is a key partner in racial equity and social justice 
• Establish PARTNERSHIPS to meet the employment needs of California 
• Support upgrading the SANTA MONICA COLLEGE VETERANS SUCESS CENTER 
• Obtain additional resources to provide mental health, food, and housing for students and community 
• Support SMC EMERITUS PROGRAM and lifelong learning opportunities for seniors and the SMC SATELITE CAMPUS / MALIBU

Me postulo para servir en la Junta de Santa Monica College en un momento de CAMBIOS SIN PRECEDENTES. El colegio ahora ofrece clases en el campus, en línea e híbridas debido a la pandemia. Gracias a mi experiencia se garantizó que estos modelos de enseñanza fueran ACCESSIBLES para TODOS LOS ESTUDIANTES y esto es un punto valioso para Santa Monica College. 

Logros de Tom Peters 

• Ex docente titular Centro para Estudiantes con Discapacidades de Santa Monica College
• Colaboré para garantizar $50,000 de donaciones para SANTA MONICA-MALIBU EDUCATION FOUNDATION mediante la SMC FACULTY ASSOCIATION para ayudar a los estudiantes locales
• Ex miembro del Comité de Asuntos Estudiantiles, Comité Ejecutivo de la Asociación Facultativa y Comité de Becas para Estudiantes con Discapacidades
• Desarrollé el EQUIPO DEPARTAMENTAL DE ACCESIBILIDAD compuesto por miembros del cuerpo docente para ayudar a los colegas a garantizar que todas las aulas y los materiales en línea fueran accesibles y puedan ser usados por todos los estudiantes
• Serví en la COMISIÓN DE DISCAPACIDAD DE LA CIUDAD DE SANTA MÓNICA
• Participé como voluntario en FOOD PANTRY DRIVE para alimentar a los estudiantes de SMC durante la pandemia y RENTERS' HOTLINE para ayudar a los arrendatarios afligidos 

Mis objetivos: 

• Brindar apoyo completo a TODOS LOS ESTUDIANTES Y EMPLEADOS DE SMC
• Trabajar con organizaciones para garantizar que Santa Monica College sea un socio clave en la igualdad racial y la justicia social
• Establecer ASOCIACIONES para cubrir las necesidades de empleo de California
• Ayudar a actualizar el VETERANS SUCESS CENTER de SANTA MONICA COLLEGE
• Obtener recursos adicionales para brindar salud mental, comida y vivienda para los estudiantes y la comunidad
• Apoyar el programa EMERITUS PROGRAM de SMC y las oportunidades de aprendizaje para toda la vida para seniors y el SATELLITE CAMPUS / MALIBU de SMC
