How to Obtain a Senior Beach Parking Permit

If you are 62 and over and enjoy the beach, you may be eligible for a Senior Beach Parking permit. The requirements are a California ID or driver's license (must be 62 years or older) and a matching current California vehicle registration (no commercial vehicles, company-owned vehicles, or RVs allowed).  Senior Beach Parking permits are sold while supplies last. Maximum of one (1) Senior Beach Parking permit allowed per eligible applicant. 

Senior Beach Parking permits are valid from April 1 to March 31 of each year and can be purchased at any time during the year. A Senior Beach Parking permit allows you to park in all of Santa Monica beach parking lots during hours of operation, excluding the Pier Deck and short-term parking areas. 

If you have an ADA placard, you do not need to purchase a Senior Beach Parking permit as the placard grants you the same privileges.

Our hours of operation are 8:30 to 11:30 am and 1:00 to 4:30 pm, Monday thru Thursday and every other Friday.

If you are applying for a Senior Beach Parking permit for the first time, you can apply on-line beginning the first week in March. Please follow the steps below.

  1. Gather Your Documents

    TO PURCHASE A SENIOR BEACH PARKING PERMIT, YOU MUST UPLOAD THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:

    • Valid California Driver's License or ID (you must be 62 or older)
    • Valid California Vehicle Registration reflecting your name- no temporary registrations, documentation, commercial vehicles, company- owned vehicles, and RV's allowed.

    If you are approved, you will be emailed a link to pay.  Your permit will be mailed to you in 5 to 7 business days from time of payment.

    If you are not approved, you will receive an email notifying you of missing information.

  1. Gather Your Documents

    TO PURCHASE A DAY BEACH PARKING PERMIT, YOU MUST PROVIDE:

    • Senior Beach Permit Application
    • Copy of a Valid California Driver’s License or ID (must be 62 years or older)
    • Copy of a Valid California Vehicle Registration reflecting your name - no temporary registrations, documentation, commercial vehicles, company-owned vehicles, and RV’s allowed.
    • Check payable to "City of Santa Monica" for $25.

    If approved, we will mail you your Senior Beach Parking permit within 1 - 3 business days.

    The Parking Operations Office is located at 1444 4th Street, in the Go SaMo Center.  There is 90 minutes free parking in the structure. Our counters are open  8:30 to 11:30 am and 1:00 to 4:30 pm, Monday thru Thursday and every other Friday.
