I’m facing eviction and/or my property owner is harassing me. Who can I contact?

If you are facing an eviction, or believe you are facing discrimination or harassment by your property owner, contact Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA): (800) 399-4529. The City Attorney’s Office helps tenants and property owners understand their rights and responsibilities, while encouraging cooperation. If you are having trouble paying rent, Affordable Housing opportunities and resources specific to COVID-19 may be available.

I need additional services in the home or community to be able to live independently. Where can I go for help?

There are many organizations that can help! WISE and Healthy Aging or SCAN’s Independence at Home program provide many services that promote independent living. Helping Hands Senior Foundation can assist with establishing in-home care. The Disability Community Resource Center also offers a wide variety of services to help people with disabilities live independently.

What should I do if I suspect elder abuse?

If the individual is experiencing a emergency or there is an immediate threat to someone’s life or safety, call 9-1-1. For non-emergency situations, call LA County’s Elder Abuse Hotline: 1-877-4R SENIORS (1-877-477-3646). If the individual is in long-term care, call the Long Term Care Ombudsman: 1-800-334-9473.

Where can I find resources about Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia?

The Southern California Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association provides community education, hosts support groups, and has a Community Resource Finder.
