The City of Santa Monica will be hosting its first ever Community Climate Action Summit on October 29th to galvanize support around it's forthcoming Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. This is an opportunity to collaborate on Santa Monica’s future environmental policy. We want as many voices to participate in this process. The Summit will also include the final session in outreach for the Downtown Community Plan. That workshop is called the Future of Mobility. While you can learn all about the workshops at www.smgov.net/climate, here are some of the fun parts of the day you might not know about.
- Halloween-themed Kidical Mass ride
Come in costume to this Santa Monica bicycling past time. Post ride activities and food will be provided! This Halloween biking fun starts at 9 a.m.
- Free Child Care
Want to participate but need some help watching the little ones? We got you covered with free child care services from our CREST program!
- Virtual Reality Sea Level Rise
How will Santa Monica be impacted by sea level rise and coastal storms? See for yourself through our virtual reality experience and learn more about adaptation strategies.
- Photo Booth
Because who doesn't love a photo booth?
- Solar DJ
Jam to some sick beats by sun and awesomeness. Stay for our Social Hour ad free bites beginning at 4:30pm.
- Land Art Generator Gallery
Did you know that Santa Monica was the chosen site for an international design competition blending renewable energy and art? The Land Art Generator Initiative brought in over 60 submissions and some really crazy ideas. We picked out a few for you to check out.
- Lunch provided by Rockenwager
We want to keep you nourished throughout the day. Food will be provided to keep brains active.
- Graphic Note Taker
While you’re brainstorming and working in groups, we will have a note taker drawing and stretching the themes that come out of each session.
- Downtown Community Plan Speaker Panel and Mobility Lab
From bikeshare and mobility services to shared and driverless vehicles, the ways we get around are changing fast. Come hear from industry experts and check out the Downtown Community Plan Mobility Lab after the panel.
- #smclimateactions: Community Voices, powered by PechaKucha
What the heck is PechaKucha? It’s a way of sharing ideas and starting conversations, with just 20 slides or images at 20 seconds each. For this event, we invited you, the community, to submit your own #smclimateaction presentations. Together, we'll hear about local actions, inspirations and visions for a carbon neutral Santa Monica from community voices.
We hope you’ll join us for this free community event. Register now at www.smgov.net/climate and follow along on social media using #SMClimateAction and #ThePlanSM.
