How to Request a Temporary Turn Off / Turn On of water services

Request a temporary turn off / turn on of water service by contacting the Water Resources Division at (310) 458-8531.

How to discontinue your Utility (Water/Sewer/Trash) Service

To discontinue water, sewer, or trash service, contact the Billing & Collections office at (310) 458-8224 extension 1 or via e-mail at billing.collections@santamonica.gov. The water meter will be read on the next business day and a closing bill will be mailed to the forwarding address provided. You may also discontinue service by logging into the account portal here.

How to Rent a Temporary Hydrant Meter

To obtain a temporary hydrant meter connection you must fill out an application and pay all applicable fees. The completed application form must be turned in to the Business & Revenue Operations Office, either via e-mail at billing.collections@santamonica.gov, or may be dropped off at 1685 Main St CHE, Santa Monica, CA 90401. For for further questions pertaining to the application process, the Billing & Collections Office can be contacted at (310) 458-8224 extension 1.

Once the above requirements are completed, a Water Resources representative will contact you to schedule a meeting for hydrant meter drop-off. For further inquiries, the Water Resources Division can be contacted at (310) 458-8531.

How to Upgrade/Add/Relocate Your Water Meter

If requesting a new water meter, enlargement, or relocation, the process begins with contacting the Public Works' Permit Counter via e-mail at pw.permits@santamonica.gov.

Provide the following information for each situation along with the site address and the building permit number (if applicable):

New Water/Fire Meters - List the proposed meter size and service line

Enlargement/Upgrading - List the existing and proposed meter size and service line

Water Meter Relocation - Provide a site plan of the propose meter location

WATER/FIRE METER FEES - JULY 1, 2022 TO JUNE 30, 2023

Once the Permit Counter reviews the request, a reply via e-mail will be sent with the appropriate links to pay all applicable fees. After all fees have been paid for, the Permit Counter will provide you with a permit number.

To schedule the installation, upgrade, or relocation, contact the Water Resources Division at (310) 458-8531. Ensure to have the permit number and all information ready to provide to the Water Resources representative to begin the office review process. Once the review process has been finalized and a work order has been generated, the Construction Supervisor will contact you to schedule the request.

How to request a Hydro Flow Test

If requesting a new Hydro Flow Test, the process begins with contacting the Public Works' Permit Counter via e-mail at pw.permits@santamonica.gov.

Provide the following information along with the site address:

GIS Map - You will need to attach a map of the fire hydrants surrounding the property in question (denoted by red crosses); this will serves as your “application.” Please circle and initial next to the two fire hydrants for which you would like the test performed and email this back to me (please scan in color). You will need to use the City GIS Map (CLICK HERE) to obtain the map, make sure to turn on the water infrastructure layer on. You will then select the print button and save the map as a PDF.

Hydro Flow Test Cost - JULY 1, 2022 TO JUNE 30, 2023

Please note that it may take 4-6 weeks to receive Hydro Flow Test Results.
