Join the millions of people across the globe in celebrating Plastic Free July by committing to reducing plastic consumption throughout the month of July. Plastic Free July is about individuals making small changes to create a collective impact. By incorporating strategies to reduce plastic throughout the month of July, you can identify some practices that you can integrate into your regular routine year-round. As a coastal community, Plastic Free July supports keeping Santa Monica beaches and the ocean clean, as well as reduces the amount of waste ending up in our landfills.
Here is a quick list of things that you can do to reduce your plastic:
- Bring your own bag when you shop (reusable or repurposed)
- Refill a reusable water bottle.
- Dine in instead of taking your food to-go (ask for “For Here”)
- Repurpose jars for food storage or refill shops (list below)
- Bring your reusable coffee mug/tumbler (discounts below)
- Keep a reusable utensil set in your purse, backpack, or car to use when disposables are the only option.
- Choose unpackaged fruits/vegetables as opposed to the packaged options.
- Refuse a disposable straw, utensil set, or condiments.
- Buy in bulk instead of individually packaged (family size versus snack size)
Here is a quick list of local Santa Monica businesses that offer reuse discounts:
- Café Demitasse - $0.25 off your drink. Refill your coffee beans container ($1 off)
