The City of Santa Monica was notified that an individual that attended the City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

We have been informed that the individual had self-isolated and has not been on site since that time and will not return until medically cleared to do so. The common areas at their work location are disinfected on a regular basis in accordance with CDC and LA County Department of Health Guidelines.

If you attended this meeting in person, you would be considered to have had a “close contact” interaction1 with individuals at this location. If a person meets the definition (see below) of a close contact at this location on the date specified above, it would be advised for that person to follow the LA DPH Guidelines for Close Contact:

Department of Public Health, and/or local public health orders

The City remains committed to maintaining a healthy and safe working environment for all. If you have any questions about this notice, please contact Don Cocozza, City of Santa Monica Safety Administrator, at Don.Cocozza@santamonica.gov.

“Close contact” exposure means: (1) Someone sharing the same indoor space (400,000 cubic ft or less); (2) for a cumulative total of 15 or more minutes over a 24-hour period; (3) with someone who has a laboratory confirmed case and is in the “infectious period” of having the disease. The “infectious period” begins the two days before either: (1) the individual first presented symptoms associated with COVID-19, for symptomatic individuals; or (2) the test that resulted in the positive diagnosis, for asymptomatic individuals. The “infectious period” concludes when the CDC guidance provides for the discontinuation of the isolation period (see CDC guidance on discontinuing home isolation for persons with COVID-19 not in healthcare settings).
