Santa Monica Community,
We have been closely monitoring the Rittenhouse trial and our Intelligence Unit has been communicating with our regional law enforcement partners about potential protest activity due to the outcome of the trial. I understand that there may be some of you concerned about the potential for activity occurring in or around Santa Monica. Even though there is no indication at this time that any type of activities specifically affecting our community, I want everyone to know that we are steadfastly committed to safeguarding our city. The Santa Monica Police Department is in close coordination with the City’s Emergency Operations Center should additional resources be needed. Together we are currently taking necessary steps to ensure we are well prepared because your safety and the protection of our community is our priority.
Beginning today and through the weekend we will implement a comprehensive response plan supported by an increased number of uniformed personnel deployed throughout the city. We will continue to monitor our sources of information so we can make the necessary adjustments if needed. If we do learn of any actionable intelligence, the information will be shared with you all in a timely manner.
I would like to remind all our community members and visitors that we count on you to be our eyes and ears when we are not around. If your See Something, Say Something by calling us at 310-458-8491 or 9-1-1 during a life-threatening emergency.
I thank you for your continued support.
