Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 as “Women’s History Week.” By 1987, and several resolutions later, March was officially designated “Women’s History Month.” During this month we look back and honor the many achievements of women throughout history as well as the advancements of women today.
The women of Santa Monica have also had a rich history of accomplishments and commitment to the community. The March edition of Seascape highlights just a few from past to present. From activists, philanthropists, business owners, volunteers, and government officials these women contribute to our community in many ways. They educate and inspire our youth, provide mentoring programs for those in need, raise funds for our schools, help drive business, and make Santa Monica a city to visit. Let’s join together to celebrate these women as we work together to continue to make Santa Monica a community that is stronger, more diverse, and safer for all.
