September is National Suicide Prevention Month 2024

The city of Santa Monica is committed to supporting a community where mental health is prioritized and diverse paths towards recovery and healing are celebrated.

If you are thinking about suicide, are worried about a friend or loved one, or would like emotional support, help is available. Call or text 9-8-8 to connect with someone at the Suicide & Mental Health Crisis Lifeline. The 988 Lifeline provides free and confidential support for people in distress 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as well as prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones. The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health also offers help and resources at dmh.lacounty.gov.

Santa Monica events and resources for National Suicide Prevention Month

Throughout the month of September: Explore the Santa Monica Public Library’s Reading List for Suicide Prevention Month, which includes fiction and nonfiction curated for adults and teens.

Sept. 24: Suicide Prevention Month Proclamation. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will accept a proclamation for Suicide Prevention Month and Week at the Sept. 24 City Council meeting.
