Hello Santa Monica,
Thanks to the keen observation skills and quick thinking of our downtown security services personnel, a potential “smash/grab” crime was thwarted.
On Friday, November 26th at approximately 5:30pm, an observant security team member at the 200 block of Broadway near Nordstrom at Santa Monica Place, took note of 7 vehicles (containing approximately a total of 28 individuals) parked in the fire lane in front of the store.
The advent of recent “flash mob robberies” in surrounding communities, West Los Angeles and California have placed all public safety and security services personnel on high alert. The security team member radioed for police assistance while noting vehicle descriptions and the license plate information. The vehicle’s occupants noticed his behavior, became antagonistic and left the area before officers arrived.
The quick thinking of security services personnel in this case thwarted a robbery.
The success in our city’s ability to curb criminal behavior is dependent on our partnership with one another. Collectively, we are all a part of the fabric of safety that makes up our great city. You are our extra eyes and ears of the community - residents and businesses alike, are a key component to crime prevention. The Santa Monica Police Department applauds the security services team member for being a GOOD WITNESS.
As we head into the Holiday Season, please continue to look out for one another, if you See Something, Say Something and be Safe!
