Celebrate Día at Fairview Library with Pulitzer Prize winner Jane Smiley
April 8, 2019 11:35 AM
Santa Monica, California – The Fairview Branch Library, 2101 Ocean Park Blvd, is proud to welcome Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jane Smiley for a children’s book author talk in celebration of Día (Children’s Day/Book Day) on Monday, April 15, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.
Well-known for her award-winning adult novels (A Thousand Acres, Ten Days in the Hills, Some Luck), Jane Smiley has recently turned her attention to young readers with Twenty Yawns, a charming picture book about a family’s day at the beach and the quietude of the moonlit night that follows. Ms. Smiley is pleased to join the Fairview Branch Library in sharing Twenty Yawns in celebration of Día, an annual celebration of child literacy. This free 45-minute program will be held in the branch’s Community Room, and is intended for families with children ages 3-8. The first children arriving will also receive a free copy of the book to take home and add to their own personal libraries, and will also be entered into a drawing for further prizes that will be held in the beginning of May. Free giveaway books are available while supplies last, and space is limited. A limited number of Ms. Smiley’s books, both children and adult, will also be available for a post-program book sale and signing.
The Fairview Library is wheelchair-accessible. For special disabled services, call (310) 458-8681 at least one week prior to event. The Fairview Library is served by Big Blue Bus routes 8, 16 and 44. Ride your bike. Bicycle parking racks are available at the library.
