Parking Structure 3 Schedule
Demolition activities are ongoing. Necessary hand demolition work is taking place inside the structure to create separation from the adjacent buildings and to protect those buildings. The contractor started performing major demolition on May 25th, 2022. The façade will be one of the first large sections of the parking structure to be removed. This work will require a temporary southbound lane closure on 4th Street in front of the structure for approximately one to two weeks. The sidewalk on the west side 4th Street will be closed. Traffic flow in the northbound direction will be maintained. The Project’s demolition phase is expected to be completed by Fall 2022.
The City of Santa Monica’s contractor, AMPCO Inc., started demolition of Parking Structure 3 (1318-20 4th Street) on March 14th, 2022 to clear the way for future mixed-use affordable housing on City-owned property. The project’s demolition phase anticipates completion by Fall 2022.
- On March 3rd, 2022 the Los Angeles County Court of Appeals has lifted the stay on the demolition of Parking Structure 3. The Court also denied the request that the demolition not be allowed to go ahead.
- The parking structure was secured with fencing
and closed to the public on February 10, 2022.
City council awarded a construction contract for demolition services at its July 13th, 2021 meeting.
- City Council authorized the City Manager to negotiate and execute an exclusive negotiation agreement on January 11th, 2022 with EAH, Inc., to negotiate the terms and conditions for development of affordable housing on the City-owned parcel at 1318-20 Fourth Street, which is currently occupied by public Parking Structure 3 in Downtown Santa Monica. After Council selection of EAH, Inc. as the developer, the development team will undertake a community outreach process regarding proposed development plans. Later, City Council would consider the long-term ground lease of the City-owned land.
