Santa Monica Public Library Removes Non-Resident Library Card Fee
January 28, 2016 12:00 AM
Santa Monica, California – At the January 26, 2016 Santa Monica City Council meeting, Council voted unanimously to approve the discontinuance of the $25 non-resident library card fee effective February 1, 2016.
Prior to Tuesday’s Council vote, on December 10, the Santa Monica Public Library Board passed a motion to eliminate the non-resident library card fee and sustain the Santa Monica Public Library’s budget at current levels.
Removal of the non-resident library card fee was an issue that arose frequently from patron suggestions and during the Library’s recent strategic planning process. Local organizations including the Santa Monica Public Library Board, the Innovation Technology Task Force and the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library Board have all overwhelmingly advocated for dropping the fee.
