Jazz on the Lawn 2016 -- The Lively Summer Concert Series Returns to Stewart Street Park

July 19, 2016 9:27 AM

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Santa Monica Cultural Affairs presents the 11th annual Jazz on the Lawn summer concert series. The fun, family-friendly concerts encourage people of all ages to dance or kick back and enjoy lively music in Stewart Street Park. Attendees can bring a picnic or grab a bite to eat at some of Southern California’s tastiest food trucks.

This year’s music line-up features: the upbeat, move-your-feet salsa/Latin dance band with a big brass sound and distinctive vocal harmonies, La Sirena y Orquesta Mar de Ashé on August 7th; the Jewish cultural revival band, Mostly Kosher, exploring a radical fusion of jazz, Latin, rock, hip hop, and folk on August 14th, MôForró a dynamic, 7-piece group playing triangle-driven, hip-swivelin’ dance music in the traditional, rootsy style of Brazilian forró on August 21st; and, Venezuela OMG, blending upbeat Caribbean music with the exotic folk rhythms of Venezuela, bringing the tropics of South America to Southern California on August 28th.

To complement the diverse musical line-up, concert-goers can sample cuisine from a variety of food trucks each week. On August 7th, Son of a Bun offers fresh American comfort food with burgers, chicken, and hotdogs, Yalla Truck serves global variations of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean street food, and Sweet Amsterdam sells Dutch stroopwaffles and topping-covered mini pancakes. On August 14th, Me So Hungry packs bold flavors and unlikely combinations into burgers and sliders, and is joined by Yalla Truck and Sweet Amsterdam. On August 21st, Me So Hungry returns as Epic Tacos serves gourmet tacos, burritos, and Mexican favorites, and Recess Truck offers ice cream cookie sandwiches, and other fun, frozen treats. On August 28th, Son of a Bun returns alongside Epic Tacos and Recess Truck for a final evening of fine, food truck dining.

Stewart Street Park amenities include a children’s playground, restrooms and accessible parking. Free bike valet will be offered starting at 4pm and free parking is available after 3:30pm.
