Santa Monica Public Library presents Soundwaves: Emily Hay and Steuart Liebig

 

     Santa Monica, California – The Santa Monica Public Library is proud to present a performance of improvised music by Emily Hay and Steuart Liebig on Wednesday January 18, 2017, at 7:30PM in the Main Library’s Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium at 601 Santa Monica Blvd.

     Both artists are popular and experienced members of the Los Angeles creative music community who expand the possibilities of their instruments. Flautist and vocalist Hay has toured internationally and recorded on the pfMentum and Public Eyesore labels under her own name, as well as working as a member of U Totem, Motor Totemist Guild, and groups led by Jeff Kaiser, Vinny Golia, Brad Dutz, and Adam Rudolph. Bass guitarist Liebig has accompanied artists ranging from Michael Penn to Les McCann to Julius Hemphill and has led his own groups on 9Winds, Cryptogramophone, and pfMentum CDs. They have a long-running collaboration as a duo and as part of larger groups, always playing free improvisation. Join us for an installment of their animated and wide-ranging musical conversation.

     Soundwaves is a monthly concert series presenting artists who appear on the DRAM (Database of Recorded American Music) streaming service. The Santa Monica Public Library is the first public library to offer this service to its cardholders.      This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and on a first-arrival basis. The Santa Monica Public Library is wheelchair accessible.
