Santa Monica, California – Santa Monica Public Library is pleased to welcome artist and onetime illustrator for The Simpsons and King of the Hill, Carlos Nieto III, presenting the workshop series Cartoon Your Story on Fridays, March 3, 10, 17, and 24, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. at the Pico Branch’s Annex, 2201 Pico Blvd.
Nieto teaches the fundamentals of creating a comics-format story in four compact, one-hour lessons: character design, story development, panel drawing, and basic design. Attendees will leave better-equipped to create their own graphic story by the end of the series.
This special event is a part of Santa Monica Reads, the city’s annual community reading program. Now in its fifteenth year, Santa Monica Reads encourages everyone in Santa Monica to read and discuss the same novel. This year’s featured book is the groundbreaking graphic memoir, Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel, which chronicles Bechdel’s coming-of-age story and her complicated relationship with her enigmatic father.
