Santa Monica Public Library Presents Breadwoman: A Music and Dance Performance
Santa Monica, California – The Santa Monica Public Library presents the Los Angeles premiere of Breadwoman, a music and dance piece by Anna Homler and the late Steve Moshier, on Thursday June 8, 2017, at 7:30PM, in the Main Library Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium at 601 Santa Monica Blvd.
Breadwoman was created in the early 1980s, and the music released on cassette in 1985, then reissued on CD and LP last year to great acclaim from the Los Angeles Times, The Wire, Pitchfork, and other media.
Homler has since toured this material in Europe with various collaborators. The magazine Juno Plus described one of these performances as "comforting and repulsive, homely and other-dimensional," and the character as both "a protective ancestor" and a "demon woman," evoking the work of David Lynch and Carl Jung.
For this show the performers will be: Anna Homler (voice and objects), Jorge Martin (electronics), and Maya Gingery (dance).
