Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at 7:30PM, the Soundwaves concert series at the Santa Monica Public Library will present a performance by Tone Drift. Assembled by guitarist G. E. Stinson, this group also includes electric bassist Steuart Liebig and trumpet player Kris Tiner. They create improvised soundscapes, using electronics and extended technique to expand their sonic palette.
Each performer is well-known as a leader and sideman in jazz, rock, and music beyond category. Stinson was an original member of Grammy-winners Shadowfax and has collaborated with Adam Rudolph, Nels Cline, Alex Cline, and others. This summer Liebig's Men-Tot Six played a stunning debut concert on the Hammer Museum's JazzPop series, and Tiner recently was named Director of Jazz Studies at Bakersfield College and appeared on Chris Schlarb's "Psychic Temple IV" album.
Soundwaves is a monthly concert series presenting artists who appear on the DRAM (Database of Recorded American Music) streaming service. The Santa Monica Public Library is the first public library to offer this service to its cardholders. Listings of past and upcoming Soundwaves shows as well as sound and video recordings are at SoundwavesNewMusic.com
This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and on a first-arrival basis. The Santa Monica Public Library is wheelchair accessible.
