April 26, 2019 2:50 PM
Santa Monica, California – Since 2002, thousands of comic book shops around the world have given away millions of free comic books on the first Saturday in May. Santa Monica Public Library presents its third annual Free Comic Book Day celebration on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Comic book lovers of all ages can stop by the Santa Monica Main Library or any Branch location to pick up a free comic book (while supplies last).
Main Library (601 Santa Monica Blvd.) will host an all-day celebration of comics:
- Superhero Story Time: From 10:30 to 11:00am, bring the whole family for stories and songs, featuring your favorite comic book heroes and heroines.
- Drop-in Comic Book Fun: From 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, join us at 12 activity stations in the Main Lobby. Make superhero slime and comic book coasters, experience lightsaber virtual reality (ages 13 and up), and much more. Costumes are encouraged!
- Superhero Screening: At 1:00 pm, enjoy a screening of a recent computer-animated blockbuster about a teen who gets bitten by a spider, gains superpowers, and crosses paths with five counterparts from other dimensions to stop a threat to all realities. For movie title, see org/comics or call 310-458-8600.
- Cosplay Contest at Hi De Ho Comics: Finally, stroll over to event co-sponsor Hi De Ho Comics at 412 Broadway for more free comics and meet comic book creators. Participate in a cosplay contest from 3:00 to 3:30 pm. See com for more information.
