Santa Monica City Council Endorses State Proposition 16

Last night, the Santa Monica City Council unanimously endorsed State Proposition 16, which would repeal Proposition 209 passed in 1996, banning affirmative action in public employment, public education, and public contracting for persons on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin. Eliminating barriers to affirmative action to increase opportunities for historically underserved or underrepresented groups aligns with Santa Monica’s longstanding values of equity and inclusion.
