The Santa Monica Public Library Board is delighted to celebrate National Library Week, April 23 – 29, 2023, and honor our five stellar locations: Main Library, Montana, Pico, Fairview, and Ocean Park branches.

Although hours are not yet at pre-pandemic levels, we take heart that all branches are open and the talented library staff remain resourceful and innovative. As a Board, we are committed to expanding hours and bringing back library services to our community and neighborhoods.

Libraries provide access to resources and materials providing a gateway to knowledge and lifelong learning for people of all ages. Libraries connect people and information.

National Library Week is a fitting time to highlight all other forms of libraries in our community such as those little libraries located in neighborhood yards, parks, or public spaces. These fun book-sharing bookcases can be seen around town in a variety of shapes and sizes providing free access to books, 24 hours a day. Little libraries bring neighborhoods together and encourage a love of reading.

Do you have a little library? Want to freshen up your book collection? If so, we want to recognize and celebrate you! In collaboration with the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library, we want to donate books to help support neighborhood collections.

Tell us about your little library by filling out the Little Library Survey

Want to get involved? Volunteer opportunities are available with the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library at the Board level; boardmember, program outreach, fund raiser, and advocacy. Learn more by visiting the Friends website.
