During September and October, join the City for a series of exciting
events that celebrate safe, equitable, and sustainable alternatives to driving!
Transportation Demand
Management (TDM) Week
TDM Week is September 16-20, 2024. This week
is dedicated to sustainable and active transportation for residents, employees,
and visitors throughout the City of Santa Monica.
Since 1991, TDM has been a cornerstone of
transportation and land use planning within the City of Santa Monica to help
improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion, make our streets safer, and
most importantly, provide everyone robust multimodal transportation options.
With over 30 years of innovation in TDM, Santa Monica continues to lead in
policy development and programming.
City Council helped kick off TDM week by Proclamation last week at the
September 10 Council meeting.
GoSaMo
Commuter Preferences Survey
The 2024
GoSaMo Transportation Management Organization (TMO) Citywide Commuter
Preferences Survey is currently live! This brief 5-minute survey is designed to
gain insights into commuting habits and the factors influencing transportation
choices within Santa Monica. Complete
the survey by September 27 to be entered to win one of four Amazon gift cards.
Feedback from Santa Monica commuters is invaluable and will directly impact GoSaMo TMO’s programming and initiatives for the coming year. Please share with anyone you know that commutes to and from Santa Monica. For any questions or further information, please contact the GoSaMo TMO at info@gosamotmo.org. Learn more about the TMO here: https://www.santamonica.gov/programs/gosamo.
Week Without Driving
Join cities
around the country for the #WeekWithoutDriving Challenge, September 30 to October 6. While many people
have access to a vehicle and are able to drive, a significant portion of our
community does not. This challenge allows us to imagine a world where driving
isn’t an option and how that would impact our views on transportation. This initiative isn't just about experiencing life
without driving; it's an opportunity to spark significant change in our
transportation habits, policies, and overall community wellbeing.
To support participating in the Week Without Driving, the City is offering free 7-day BBB passes to Santa Monica residents and employees who take the challenge. Once you’ve taken the pledge, send a screenshot of the confirmation page to rideshare@santamonica.gov with the email subject “2024 Week Without Driving Challenge” and the email address you’d like to receive your 7-day BBB Token Transit pass. Please also include where you heard about this opportunity in your email.
Bike It! Walk It! Bus It!
Santa Monica students can ride Big Blue Bus for
free during Bike It! Walk It! Bus It! week, held October 7 to October 11! This
initiative encourages K-12 students and their families to choose eco-friendly
transportation options, such as biking, walking, or using public transit.
Here's how you can participate:
- GoPass TAP Card: Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) students can ride free on Metro, Big Blue Bus, and other participating transit agencies in LA County all school year with a GoPass TAP Card. This includes Bike It! Walk It! Bus It! week!
- Valid School ID: Students can also ride for free during this week by showing a valid school ID to the Big Blue Bus operator. If you don’t have a school ID, you can use a current report card, class schedule, or an official letter from your school verifying enrollment.
