LA County has been facing a housing and homelessness crisis unlike anything seen before. Among other factors, the high cost of housing has caused thousands of households to be rent-burdened and far too many more to fall into homelessness. The need for shelter and housing far outstrips capacity across the county, and the lack of affordable housing means people get stuck in the shelter system or wait for years to get off the streets. We see the effects of this every day in Santa Monica.
Thanks to new federal rental voucher resources, the City is launching 100 HOMES, a new Initiative to help 100 people experiencing homelessness in Santa Monica move into permanent homes. Eligible individuals currently staying in shelters in Santa Monica will have a pathway to a permanent home. As more people move into permanent housing, individuals who are currently living outside and have been identified as needing shelter can take those spots. We ask that all of us who live and work in Santa Monica participate in this effort to help house our most vulnerable neighbors and make our City safe, equitable, and accessible for all.

- Identifying Apartments: Reach out to property owners through phone banking and personal connections who have units for people to move into.
- Turning Apartments into Homes: Donate furniture and household items and/or assist with move-in day for people moving in with literally the clothes on their back.
- Managing Logistics: Help manage logistics of donations and move-in day tasks such as transporting donations, assembling furniture, etc.
