To support participating in the Week Without Driving from September 30 to October 6, the Santa Monica Department of Transportation is offering free 7-day BBB passes to Santa Monica residents and employees who take the challenge. Once you’ve taken the pledge, send a screenshot of the confirmation page to rideshare@santamonica.gov with the email subject “2024 Week Without Driving Challenge” and the email address you’d like to receive your 7-day BBB Token Transit pass. Please also include where you heard about this opportunity in your email.
Bike It! Walk It! Bus It!
Santa Monica students can ride Big Blue Bus free during Bike It! Walk It! Bus It! week, held October 7 - October 11! This initiative encourages K-12 students and their families to choose eco-friendly transportation options, such as biking, walking, or using public transit. Here's how you can participate:
- GoPass TAP Card: Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) students can ride free on Metro, Big Blue Bus, and other participating transit agencies in LA County all school year with a GoPass TAP Card. This includes Bike It! Walk It! Bus It! week!
- Valid School ID: Students can also ride for free during this week by showing a valid school ID to the Big Blue Bus operator. If you don’t have a school ID, you can use a current report card, class schedule, or an official letter from your school verifying enrollment.
California Clean Air Day
On Wednesday, October 2, Big Blue Bus will offer free rides to everyone in honor of the 7th annual California Clean Air Day! Sponsored by the Coalition for Clean Air, this statewide initiative highlights how individual actions can positively impact the health of our communities and environment. By choosing a sustainable transportation option like Big Blue Bus’s Zero Emissions fleet, you can help reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution. Reducing gas consumption by just one gallon prevents 20 pounds of harmful greenhouse gas emissions from being released into the atmosphere!
