As the City of Santa Monica prepares for the upcoming elections, the Santa Monica Police Department is taking proactive measures to ensure a smooth and safe process for all voters. We are vigilant in scanning for any potential threats that could disrupt voting at polling centers and ballot boxes across the city. By closely monitoring social media platforms, we aim to detect any early signs of possible interference or unrest. Additionally, we are engaged in regular meetings with surrounding law enforcement agencies, the local NAACP, and the Los Angeles ADL office to stay informed and work collaboratively with community partners.

Our Planning and Intelligence Team is playing a critical role in these preparations. They are currently developing reference materials and delivering specialized training to our patrol officers to ensure they are well-equipped for election day. These resources include comprehensive lists of polling locations and ballot boxes, which will be essential for situational awareness and maintaining the peace.

Twice a week, officers receive updates on emerging trends and any potential threats that could compromise public safety during the election period. We are fully committed to safeguarding the voting process while also maintaining a delicate balance between ensuring public safety and protecting the rights of residents and other individuals. It is crucial that people feel safe when they exercise their right to vote without intimidation, and equally important that we uphold their freedom of speech and assembly without undue interference.

As election day approaches, the SMPD’s focus remains on being prepared, vigilant, and collaborative. By working with community partners, conducting regular assessments, and providing ongoing training to our officers, we aim to create an environment where every voter feels secure and empowered to participate in the democratic process. Our goal is simple: ensure that the elections proceed smoothly, free from disruptions, and that everyone’s right to vote is protected.
