Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Interlibrary loan is the process by which a library requests material from, or supplies material to, another library. If you’re interested in a title we don’t have, we can request it from another library in the US on your behalf and, if fulfilled, send it to the Main Library, Pico Branch, or Montana Branch for pick-up.

Notes about ILL

Before requesting, please note that this process may take as little as four weeks, and it could take longer to procure more obscure titles.

The patron will also be responsible for a $5.00 fee for the request, regardless of whether it is filled or not. Depending on the title, other institutions may charge additional fees for the material, though we will notify you if that is the case.

If you wish to request four or more items at once, you must pay the ILL fees as soon as possible, or your account will be blocked. You can pay in person at one of our full-service locations or online.

Interested in Requesting an ILL?

Email library@santamonica.gov with your name, library card number, title and author of the material, which library branch you want to pick it up at (should the request be fulfilled), and the best way to contact you.
