Santa Monica, California – Santa Monica Public Library presents Gem: A Dazzling Discussion of Precious Rocks, Stones and Minerals with Aja Raden on Thursday, February 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Library’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Blvd.

Learn the stories, myths, and legends surrounding the most celebrated jewel-laden artifacts from around the world. Jeweler and best-selling author Aja Raden relays tales of her sparkling journey through the world of jewels and gems. Raden explains why she describes her work as “history’s curio cabinet of forgotten jewels,” shares the wildest gem- and jewel-related facts she has come across in her research, as well as the most common misconceptions about jewelry and precious metals. Raden also discusses the future of precious rocks, stones, and minerals, namely the invention and sophistication of synthetic diamonds. A book sale and signing, courtesy of Book Soup, follows the program.

This program is free and open to all ages.
