Lauren Gold Howland Selected as Communications and Public Information Manager

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – City Manager David White announced the appointment of Lauren Gold Howland as the City’s communications and public information manager, effective August 14, 2023. Howland will manage the comprehensive dissemination of information to the public and staff regarding City programs, initiatives, and events and will serve as the City’s official spokesperson.
"We’re excited for Lauren to hit the ground running and build upon the work done by the communications team," said City Manager David White. "Her background and depth of experience will serve her well in implementing a robust program to keep our community informed of all things Santa Monica," he said.
Howland has nearly a decade’s experience in communications for local government. She most recently served as the public information officer for Long Beach Utilities, where she managed the public affairs and graphic design team, served as primary spokesperson, developed and implemented crisis communications strategies, and led Long Beach Utilities’ rebranding effort. Prior to that, Howland served as communications specialist for the City of Anaheim and public information officer for the City of San Gabriel. Before beginning her career in local government, she worked as a reporter for the Pasadena Star-News, covering city government, human interest and breaking news in Pasadena and other San Gabriel Valley cities. Howland is bilingual in English and Spanish.

"I look forward to bringing my experience, leadership and strategic direction to the communications team, building on the strong foundation that has been established to engage and inform residents, businesses and visitors," she said.
Howland will serve in the City Manager’s Office, Office of Communications, with an annual salary of $161,316.
