How to Become a Volunteer
Becoming a volunteer for a City managed program all starts by completing the volunteer application. Once the application is completed a catalog of volunteers opportunities will be available to browse. Note: Santa Monica is a "Zero Tolerance" city and the majority of volunteer opportunities will require a live scan background check.

Below will explain how to become a volunteer.

Create an account
+ -To get started, click here. Click on Register Now button. You will need complete the application.

Volunteer Handbook
+ -After you create a profile read through the Volunteer Program Handbook.

Find an Opportunity
+ -Browse the various volunteer opportunities. Click on "Learn More". Take note of the duties, qualifications, time commitment, and special instructions.

Respond to an Opportunity
+ -Express your interest by clicking on "Volunteer" under the section "How you can help". You may be prompted to provide additional information. You will receive a message with next steps which depends on the volunteer opportunity and department-specific selection process.

Complete the Background check
+ -Depending on the volunteer opportunity you have selected you will be invited to complete a Live Scan (background check) and complete additional training and certifications.
