How to Obtain an Overnight Oversize Vehicle Parking Permit

NOTICE: Beginning July 29, 2024, Overnight/Oversize permit rates will be applied as follows:

  •          Resident: $2.00 daily (Max 30 Days)
  •          Visitor: $10.00 daily (Max 7 Days)

Overnight Oversize Parking permits are valid within 2 blocks of the applicant’s address. A maximum of 30 days are issued for a vehicle registration reflecting the applicant's Santa Monica address and a maximum of 7 consecutive days per 30 day period will be issued for a vehicle registration not reflecting the applicants Santa Monica address.

Recreational vehicles and non-commercial passenger vehicles that exceed eight feet in width, eight feet in height, or twenty feet in length must display an Overnight Oversize Parking permit between the hours of 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM within 2 blocks of applicant's address. 

To apply for an Overnight Oversized Parking permit, you must be a Santa Monica resident and provide ID, current proof of residency and the current vehicle registration. No more than one (1) Overnight Oversize parking permit may be issued in any thirty-day period per residential address. 

Our hours of operation are 8:30 to 11:30 am and 1:00 to 4:30 pm, Monday thru Thursday and every other Friday.

REGARDING COMMERCIAL VEHICLES: Owners of vehicles that are classified as “Commercial” on the vehicle registration have to change the vehicle type to “Non-Commercial” via the DMV to purchase Overnight Oversize Parking permits.  Vehicles classified as “Commercial” on the vehicle registration will not be eligible to purchase Overnight Oversize Parking permits.

Please follow the steps below in order to apply for a permit in person.

  1. Gather Information

    TO APPLY FOR AN OVERSIZE OVERNIGHT PARKING PERMIT, YOU MUST PROVIDE:

    • Overnight Oversize Application.  For application, email parking@santamonica.gov
    • Valid Government Issued ID (e.g.; driver’s license, passport, etc.)
    • Valid Vehicle Registration for which a permit is being requested.
    • Proof of Residency: a current utility, cable, internet, bank or credit card bill.   All statements must be from the last 30 days, include your name, and match the current Santa Monica address.

  2. Where are we located?

    1. The Parking Operations Office is located at 1444 4th Street, in the Go SaMo Center.  There is 90 minutes free parking in the structure. Our counters are open  8:30 to 11:30 am and 1:00 to 4:30 pm, Monday thru Thursday and every other Friday.
