Only adult passport renewal applications are accepted by mail, or online at MyTravelGov.

Determine Qualification
+ -You can renew your passport if you:
- You have your passport in your possession to submit with your application.
- It's undamaged other than normal wear and tear.
- Was issued when you were age 16 or older.
- Was issued within the last 15 years.
- Was issued in your current name or you can document your name change.
If you answered "No" to any statement, you must apply in person using a DS-11.

Gather Documentation
+ -Mail-in the following documents to the Department of State:
- DS-82
- Your most recent U.S. passport book
- Include name change documentation, if applicable
- Passport Photo taken within 6 months
- Check or money order payable to the "US Department of State"

Track your Application
+ -Passport applications may be tracked on the Department of State's website. It may take 4 weeks from the day you submit your application until your status is “In Process.” During this time, your application is delivered to a mail facility, your payment is processed, and your application is entered into the system.

Passport Services hours are by appointment only. Passport renewal applications for adults are not accepted at this facility as this process can be completed by mail, or online at MyTravelGov, unless you were 15 or younger when you received your most recent passport or it has been over 5 years since your passport expired. We regret that we do not accept walk-ins and ask that you book an appointment early as wait times for appointments are typically 1-2 months away.

Gather Documentation
+ -Please bring the following documents to your appointment:
- Completed unsigned DS-11 form.
- Original proof of U.S. citizenship (CA birth abstracts not acceptable).
- Valid primary identification for applicants and parents of minor applicants.
- Passport photo taken within six months. Please Note: We cannot safely take infant pictures. If your passport appointment is for a child that cannot sit up on their own without support, please bring their passport picture with you.
- Check or money order payable to the "US Department of State".
- Debit or credit for the processing fee payable to the City of Santa Monica.

Attend Passport Appointment
+ -Applicants including minors must be present at the time of the appointment. If applying for a minor, both parents must attend the appointment. If one parent cannot attend, a notarize DS-3053 form must be brought to the appointment.
