Interim City Clerk

Interim City Clerk Nikima S. Newsome joined the Santa Monica City Clerk’s Office in 2019 as the Assistant City Clerk.  Prior to arriving in Santa Monica, Newsome served as the Township Clerk/Deputy Registrar/Purchasing Agent for the Township of Mount Holly in Mount Holly, New Jersey for nearly five years and as the Deputy Clerk of Council for the inaugural Cuyahoga County Council in Cleveland, Ohio for three years.  She holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio and obtained her certification as a Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) in 2013 and Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) in 2017 from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC). She continues to maintain her licensing credentials as a Registered Municipal Clerk (RMC) and a Qualified Purchasing Agent (QPA) in the State of New Jersey.  She also serves as a Mentor for new and upcoming Clerks for the City Clerks Association of California (CCAC).
