Street Safety (Number of collisions)
How are we doing?
The City is committed to reducing the number of collisions and improve the safety of our streets. In 2016, City Council adopted the Pedestrian Action Plan and is committed to achieving a goal of Vision Zero. In working towards Vision Zero, the City launched a campaign called Take the Friendly Road to raise awareness and engage the community about transportation safety.
In 2018, there were 360 vehicle-vehicle collisions in Santa Monica. This is a significant reduction from the 424 collisions in 2015. The 2020 target is a downward trend in the number of vehicle-vehicle collisions and all other types of collisions. Currently, the City is on track to meet this target.
