Tenant Rights

As a tenant, you have rights under state, local, and federal law. You have the right to privacy, safety, habitability, and to be free from harassment and discrimination. In Santa Monica, most tenants have eviction protections, and rent increases during their tenancy are generally limited by law. All tenants have a right to habitable housing and landlords are required to maintain their properties. Tenants in rent-controlled units have additional rights and protections.
