Douglas Park Playground Reconstruction Project

A project funded by Los Angeles County Regional Open Space District to improve and replace the playground is coming to Douglas Park! The new playground will be universally accessible - the fifth of its kind to be built in Santa Monica - welcoming children of diverse abilities to play and enjoy

 

Two community workshops and other opportunities for community input on the playground project will kick off in 2024.  Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2025 and be completed by Summer 2025.

Community Meeting #1: Outreach and Informal Meeting at the Park
The City and Landscape Structures Inc. would like to meet and hear directly from residents and stakeholders. Paper surveys will be available for those who have not completed the online survey. Feedback from the first community workshop will be incorporated into the design of the playground, and the preferred concept design will be presented in the second and final community workshop, planned for Summer 2024. check back here for dates and details onthe second community workshop.

Tuesday, December 12, 2023 
City Council Hearing
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to negotiate and execute an agreement with Landscape Structures, Inc. for the design, purchase of equipment, and installation of an inclusive playground at Douglas Park.  This recommended award is made as an exception to the competitive bidding process, pursuant to Section 2.24.250(c), and is for an amount not to exceed $1,900,000 (including 10% contingency) for two years with a one-year renewal option.
