Fairview Branch Library
The Fairview Branch, located in the heart of the Sunset Park neighborhood, reopened in November 2022 via Open+, a comprehensive self-service model providing controlled access to the library.
Library cardholders who are pre-approved may access the branch Tuesdays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Self-Service Hours allow users to pick up items on reserve, use the library space, access materials and resources, and use a computer.
Registration is required; you can register online. A confirmation email will be sent 1-2 days after registration. Patrons who already have self-service access at the Ocean Park Branch do not need to register again.
The first Fairview Branch opened in 1931 on 20th Street and was only 15 feet wide. In 1942, the store front library was replaced by a new building, located at 2030 Pico Boulevard. In 1956, the Fairview Branch Library moved to its present location. Designed by architect Weldon Fulton in the 1950s, The Fairview Branch is a classic mid-century modern building. The original furnishings came from Eames, Knoll Associates, and Remington Rand. A community room was added in 1978 and other facility improvements were made in 2002 and 2016.
