Beginning Tuesday, April 12, 2022, the public is invited back into the Council Chambers at City Hall for attendance and public comment before the Santa Monica City Council. This decision comes as the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health relaxed Health Officer Order mandates due to the rapid decline in COVID-19 cases.
"After almost two years of remote City Council meetings and hearing from our community over the phone, I am thrilled that we can mark the positive change in COVID-19 transmission by returning to in-person public participation,” said Santa Monica Mayor Sue Himmelrich. “We look forward to seeing more faces in person and to supporting our community's engagement in the democratic process.”
To facilitate broad public participation in the City Council meetings, the City will fulfill any requests for ADA accommodations or Spanish language interpretation services made up to three days before the meeting.
The City strongly recommends that the public wear a mask when inside City facilities and at City Council meetings, however, they will not be required. Surgical masks will remain readily available for the public at City facility entrances and a waiting area will be established to ensure physical distancing can be maintained.
Meetings of Santa Monica’s Boards and Commissions will remain remote for the time being, and planning is ongoing for how best to move forward with their format.
